We propose here the key of the hiking schedule proposed by the Blog of Albergo Adele Bormio
Difficulty scale
The difficulty scale used in this book is based on an increasing scale from 1 to 10. The difficulty of the excursion described in each chapter indicates the difficulty of the most difficult point on the entire route.
Travel times and length
The length and travel time are representative of the entire itinerary. From the starting point (beginning of the excursion) to the point of arrival (end of the excursion). Times are calculated at the pace of an average hiker who usually tackles routes of the indicated length, height difference and difficulty. This means that for each difficulty scale a different average pace is considered.
Total uphill difference in height
The total uphill difference in height is the sum of all the uphill sections present within the excursion expressed by height difference, that is, by difference in altitude.
Recommended season
By recommended season we mean the period of the year in which the excursion is normally walkable. Considering the alpine environment and the meteorological variables, especially the presence of snow on the ground, the indicated time period may undergo small variations depending on the year. It is up to the individual hiker to assess the conditions of the environment before embarking on the excursion.
Back and forth route
By “back and forth route” we mean an itinerary in which the outward and return journeys follow the same path.
Circular route
By “circular route” we mean an itinerary in which the hiker goes from the starting point to the arrival point making a loop.
QR code
By scanning the QR code on each excursion chapter in this volume with your smartphone, a web link will open, directed to the online page of the Albergo Adele Bormio blog dedicated to the chosen excursion. This will give you the opportunity to download the excursion card in PDF format and the GPX track of the route to your phone in a simple and free way.
NOTES
- If your smartphone does not open the QR code automatically, we suggest you download one of the countless QR readers available for free in Play Store of Android or in App Store of Apple.
- The GPX track can be downloaded from the online map of the excursion thanks to the collaboration between Albergo Adele Bormio and Valtellina Outdoor.
Suitable for rainy days
With this indication we want to highlight some hiking itineraries that can be walked and be rewarding even on rainy days. Any itinerary, especially near valleys and waterways, must be absolutely avoided in the event of violent storms or weather warnings as incidents of sudden floods or debris flows could occur.
Check the altitude of snow before the excursion
For high altitude excursions it is always suggested to check the snow level before the excursion. Snow altitude means the average altitude at which snow is present on the ground in a considerable manner. This evaluation is always necessary but it is particularly so in spring and autumn.
