SKI TOURING

The Bormio valleys, birthplace of many champion ski mountaineers like Meraldi, Greco, Giacomelli, and Antonioli, are a paradise for lovers of this sport. The Forni area in Valfurva, or “la Foppa” near the Foscagno pass, from December to April offer a multitude of itineraries and breath-taking panoramas, with an elevation gain of between 600 and 1500m.

The Alpine Guides and Alpine Rescue remind those who venture off piste to always:

  • check the snow/weather report by Arpa Lombardia;
  • choose their itinerary carefully according the abilities of the group and the snow conditions;
  • know how to use and always take with them the necessary rescue
    equipment (avalanche transceiver, shovel, and probe).

CROSS COUNTRY SKIING

For those who prefer narrow skis the Bormio area offers world class amateur and competitive trails. Skiing on the Valtellina trail in Santa Caterina Valfurva guarantees an unforgettable experience.

On the Viola trail in Valdidentro you will often find yourself skiing alongside some of the best national and international athletes (Biathlon). In Bormio there is a small tourist loop depending on snow conditions.
