Long, panoramic and of medium difficulty<\/strong>, the excursion to the Val Viola Pass and \u201cLagh da Val Viola\u201d is a very satisfying transborder hike.<\/strong><\/p>\n

This excursion is made unique by the magnificent small lakes<\/strong> that you meet along the route, like the \u201cLagh da Val Viola\u201d in the Swiss Val di Campo<\/strong>, one of the most admired and photographed small lakes in the Alps.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Long, panoramic and of medium difficulty,<\/b><\/span><\/span> the excursion to the Val Viola pass and \u201cLagh da Val Viola\u201d is a <\/span><\/span>very satisfying transborder hike.<\/b><\/span><\/span> This excursion is made <\/span><\/span>unique by the magnificent small lakes<\/b><\/span><\/span> that you meet along the route, like the \u201c<\/span><\/span>Lagh da Val Viola\u201d in the Swiss Val di Campo, one of the most admired and photographed small lakes in the Alps.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This excursion starts from the <\/span>car park of \u201cAltumeira\u201d in Val Viola<\/b><\/span>, in the municipality of Valdidentro. From the car park <\/span>go uphill along the easy stone road of \u201cVal Viola\u201d<\/b><\/span> that, with a slight slope, runs along <\/span>route 290<\/b><\/span> in the direction of \u201cRifugio Viola\u201d and \u201c<\/span>Passo di Val Viola\u201d.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

After about 2 kilometres you will arrive in proximity of the \u201c<\/span><\/span>Lago Viola\u201d<\/b><\/span><\/span>, the biggest lake on the Italian ridge of the valley. Here the road becomes flat and in a few minutes brings you to the \u201cRifugio Viola\u201d. A few dozen meters<\/span><\/span> before the Alpine shelter you have to turn right <\/b><\/span><\/span>and, staying on the stone road, you continue your ascent <\/span><\/span>in the direction of the \u201cPasso di Val Viola\u201d<\/b><\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span> From this point the next road signs will be the Swiss ones.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A few dozen meters before reaching the evident Val Viola Pass you meet an <\/span><\/span>intersection<\/b><\/span><\/span> that turns right in the direction of the <\/span><\/span>\u201cVal di Camp\u201d <\/b><\/span><\/span>(CH) and <\/span><\/span>\u201cTrans Altarezia 32\u201d<\/b><\/span><\/span>. Take this track and completely ignore the road signs and the stone road that invite you to go straight in the direction of the Lagh da Val Viola and Plan de la Genzana. <\/span><\/span>(pay attention at the intersection). <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This alternative road,<\/b><\/span> longer and just a bit less panoramic, is convenient because <\/span>it’s easier and less dangerous. Speaking of which, we remind you that in Switzerland all rescues are to be paid for. <\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Crossing the country border between Italy and Switzerland <\/span><\/span>the route goes slightly downhill surrounded by beautiful high mountain meadows.<\/b><\/span><\/span> After about 3 kilometres you will arrive at the incredible <\/span><\/span>\u201cLagh da Val Viola\u201d, a jewel nestled between rugged mountains and luxuriant vegetation dominated by impressive larches. <\/b><\/span><\/span> <\/b>Around<\/b><\/span><\/span> the lake many benches invite you to take a break to enjoy the serenity of the place and the pleasure of good living. <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

After the break and the typical photos, <\/span>go back the way you came<\/b><\/span> paying attention to the road signs in the direction of the Passo di Val Viola that invite you to follow a different route. Ignore them and <\/span>only go back via your original route.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Trivia:<\/b><\/span><\/span> In the Bormio area, the Lagh da Val Viola is usually called Lago Saoseo.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
